DISCOVER CLM

Welcome!

Christ Lutheran Church was founded in 1896 and is located in the heart of Zumbrota. In 2024, we began construction of the Ministry Center which houses Christ Lutheran School, including our Kids of Christ childcare and preschool and our K-8 elementary program. We are part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). STARTING POINT

  • Christ Lutheran Ministries is located in Zumbrota, MN. We have two buildings, Christ Lutheran Church and the Ministry Center. All of our worship services happen at Christ Lutheran Church. We use our Ministry Center for our fellowship events, Bible studies, and Sunday school. Christ Lutheran School, including our Kids of Christ childcare and preschool and K-8 program, are situated within the Ministry Center!

  • First off, welcome - whether this is your first time attending a worship service or you’re new to the area, we are so happy you have decided to join us! Our worship services are every Sunday at 9 am and invite you to check out our calendar for upcoming events. When you attend a service, be sure to sign our Friendship Register!

  • Our worship follows a liturgy, or order of service. This includes prayer, scripture readings, hymns, and sermons. When you visit, everything is printed in the bulletin you receive from the greeters as you enter the Sanctuary so you can follow along, or you can find it in the blue “Christian Worship Hymnal” available in each of the pews. If you missed your cup of coffee in the morning, don’t forget to help yourself at the Keurig located in the back of church!

  • Children are invited and encouraged to worship with their parents! For young children there are activity bags on a stand in the back of the church (narthex). These contain quiet activities and books.

    Children’s Area
If you feel that you need to escape during the worship service, come and go as you need. In the basement we have children’s area where kids can play with an adult. The cupboard is stocked with extra toys, including a bin of sensory tools for neurodivergent kiddos - fidgets, weighted blanket, etc. Help yourself and return things when you’re finished!

    Children’s Sermon
Every Sunday we have a Children’s Sermon led by our Pastor following the reading of the Gospel. Parents are welcome to come up with their children.

    Infants & Nursing Mothers
In both of the women’s restrooms (upstairs and downstairs) there are changing stations. For nursing mothers that would like a private area, the women’s restroom in the basement can lock and has a separate area with a rocking chair.

  • Yes! Please reach out to Pastor Engel for more information.

  • We have regular Bible studies for both adults and teens. To stay on top of all our events, view our calendar. You can also check out the Our Ministries page for a list of our recurring opportunities.

  • Our greatest opportunity for youth is Christ Lutheran School (CLS), which provides a Christ-centered education for children from preschool through 8th grade. If you are interested in learning more, we invite you to explore the CLS pages on our website or schedule a tour to meet our staff, see our classrooms, and ask questions.

Beyond CLS, we offer a variety of youth ministries and events throughout the year. These include Sunday School for children in PreK-8th grade and Luther League for students in 9th-12th grade. Special events include Power Hour, Easter for Kids, Trunk or Treat, Christmas for Kids, open gyms, Movie Knights sponsored by the SPO, and more. To learn more, visit the Our Ministries page or check our calendar for upcoming events and activities.

  • THAT the Bible is God’s verbally inspired Word, totally without error, and is the only sure guide to heaven. (2 Peter 1:21; 1 Corinthians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16)

THAT the God of the Bible, the Triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – is the only true God. (Isaiah 44:6; Matthew 28:19; John 5:23)

THAT the Son Jesus Christ is true God, and since his birth of a virgin in Bethlehem, he is both true God and true Man in one Person. (Galatians 4:4; Colossians 2:9)

THAT we are sinful, and if left to ourselves we would surely spend an eternity in hell because of our sins, for we can do nothing at all to save ourselves. (Psalm 51:5; Genesis 8:21; Romans 6:23a; Ephesians 2:1; Romans 9:16)

THAT Jesus Christ died and rose again to pay for our sins and to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven to all as a free gift of God. (Isaiah 53:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 6:23; Romans 4:25)

THAT it is the Holy Spirit who draws us to God through the Means of Grace (the Bible and the two Sacraments), for we are powerless to choose to follow Christ on our own. Faith itself is a miraculous gift from God. (1 Corinthians 12:3; Romans 10:17; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Ephesians 2:8,9)

THAT infants as well as adults should be baptized and that through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism the pardon for our sins won by Christ is extended to the baptized person. (Matthew 28:19; John 3:5,6; Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16)

THAT in a Sacrament of Holy Communion the true body and true blood of Christ are received together with the bread and wine, and that those who partake of it in true repentance and faith receive the forgiveness won for all by Christ. (1Corinthians 10:16; Matthew 26:26,28)

THAT God answers every prayer addressed to him in faith and in the name of Jesus, for through the blood of Christ God is our dear Father in heaven. (Matthew 7:7; John 16:23; Galatians 3:26)

THAT out of thanks for God’s great goodness, the Christian will wish to lead a life of service and will seek to sustain and develop the faith which God has given him by regularly attending church to hear his Word. (1 John 4:19; Titus 2:14; Mark 12:30,31; Hebrews 10:25; Romans 10:14)

THAT God wants us to join together with those who believe, teach, and practice these truths, but asks us to withhold fellowship from those who believe, teach, or practice anything contrary to what his Word clearly states, be they in another church body or in a secular organization. (John 8:31,32; Matthew 28:20; Romans 16:17)

THAT God has called us to share these soul-saving truths with all people. (Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47,48)

  • We believe that also through the Sacrament of Baptism the Holy Spirit applies the gospel to sinners, giving them new life (Titus 3:5) and cleansing them from all sin (Acts 2:38). The Lord points to the blessing of Baptism when he promises, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved" (Mark 16:16). We believe that the blessing of Baptism is meant for all people (Matthew 28:19), including infants. Infants are born sinful (John 3:6) and therefore need to be born again, that is, to be brought to faith, through Baptism (John 3:5).

If you would like to consult with our Pastor regarding the baptism of your child, please call the church office (507-732-5421). Baptisms are scheduled through the Church Office.

Baptisms are usually held within the worship service because the congregation, on behalf of the whole church, is also assuming responsibility for nurturing the baptized child in the Christian faith and life.

  • At the birth of a child, members are encouraged to inform our Pastor so that he can visit the family in the hospital. Baptism arrangements can be made at that time or by phoning the church office. Baptism can be administered in the hospital, at the home, in a private service at church or in a regular worship service. It is important that baptism take place as soon after the birth as possible.

  • Services are Sundays at 9:00 a.m. on KCUE 1250 AM Red Wing(1250 AM & 98.9 FM) and on WBHA of Wabasha (1190 AM & 99.7 FM).

Donations to help cover the cost of airing services can be sent to:

  • Since death is a time of great spiritual testing and is the gate from this world to our home in heaven, it is vital that a person is spiritually prepared to stand before God. Personal ministry to the dying and to the family of one who is dying is a priority for our Pastor. Contact him immediately when this time comes. Our Pastor conducts funerals and memorial services for the members of the congregation and those who are under his spiritual care.

  • At a time of illness, it is important to receive comfort and assurance from God's Word. Our Pastor is able to visit you in the hospital or in your home to speak words of comfort from the Word of God. Please inform him if you are hospitalized.

If you are unable to be in God's house for an extended period or if you become shut-in, please speak to Pastor so that he can arrange a visit to your home to provide you with the Lord's Supper.

  • On the second and fourth Sundays of each month we celebrate the Lord's Supper. Because God wants to bless those who partake of this special meal, he has called us to be assured that those who receive this meal have been properly instructed in his Word. Therefore, we practice close communion, which means that we ask those who are not members of our congregation or a sister Wisconsin Synod congregation to speak to our Pastor before communing. He will explain the options available to you to prepare to receive the Lord's Supper.

  • Our Pastor is able to provide spiritual counseling for a number of situations: marriage counseling, individual spiritual struggles, anxieties, depression or questions about the Bible's teachings. Our Pastor is not a professional counselor. If professional counseling is required, he will be able to provide information and referral to a professional Christian counselor.

  • At the time of a wedding, there are many plans to make and many steps involved in carrying out those plans. We strive to provide a couple with important counsel and guidance from God's Word so that they will establish a Christ-centered marriage and family life. For that reason, we only perform weddings for those who are members of our congregation or who are willing to attend our Bible Information Class.

Those who wish to be married at Christ Lutheran will meet with our Pastor shortly after the engagement to discuss the wedding service. They will also be required to attend our premarital counseling course that focuses on building a Christ-centered home and provides guidance for dealing with common issues in marriage.
